Less recognized, and definitely underutilized, is the option of obtaining a second opinion on the merits and status of your legal matter. It is now fairly well established that it is prudent to obtain a second, independent medical evaluation before proceeding with any major treatment course. The same should be true for your law related issues. Just as a secure, competent physician will often recommend a second opinion to a patient, nor resent one, so too a thoughtful and confident lawyer will welcome review of his decisions and conduct by another qualified attorney.
Few things are more traumatic and emotional than finding yourself immersed in the midst of a legal battle – whether it’s a divorce, a will contest, a business dispute, an injury claim, a malpractice suit, an employment issue, a criminal charge or any other contest. To you, the whole process is both draining and confusing. Our legal system, though the best in the history of civilization, is complex and convoluted. Seldom is there a single correct course of navigation through the maze, or the only “right” answer.
- Do you assert a right, or pass on it?
- Does it make economic sense?
- Does it make emotional sense?
- What are the “odds” of prevailing?
- Do you go to court, or do you settle?
- Do you agree to arbitrate or would it make more sense to
mediate?
- Are the legal fees reasonable?
-
Is the case adequately prepared?
- Is it properly postured?
- Do the answers you are being given satisfy you?
- Do they ring true?
All these, and many more issues can be discussed comfortably as part of a second opinion consultation.
With 35 years of “in the pits” experience, I have developed the ability to review and evaluate a wide variety of legal challenges and to predict, with a reasonable degree of accuracy, the most likely outcome. Having represented clients in business disputes, injury and malpractice claims, family law matters, employment and various other litigated issues, I bring to the table a knowledge and sensitivity to those things that most impact and affect the individual client. The process has allowed me to appreciate and empathize with the client’s point of reference.
